There are so many local fields to see the sunflowers in bloom this year! From Kelly's Farm Market in Hilton to LaMora Farms in Ontario and areas in between such as Wickham Farms in Penfield, Stokoe Farms in Scottsville and Hopkins Farm in Pittsford you will see beautiful sunflower fields with plenty of photo opportunities.
Kirby's 2020 sunflower field is twice the size of last year's! It will be in full bloom around the 20th of September. Check their facebook page for all the details and updates. Visiting the sunflower field is free and open whenever the market is open.
On the corner of Route 332 and Collett Road West in Farmington you will see a beautiful sunflower field. The field was established by Harry Wells, Managing Vice President of American Equipment in 2015. The 12 acres of land uses Black Russian Sunflowers because of the type of soil that in the area. The sunflowers grow approximately six feet tall but there are some flowers that are easily double that height! The number of flowers there has also helped expand the bee community as well. You will see them buzzing around and it's a very vibrant setting! The reason the corner was established was to promote the beauty of Farmington as you enter or exit the Thruway. Turn onto Collett Road and there is a parking lot to park your vehicle. Stop by soon so you don't miss the wonder of this beautiful corner!
Be sure to check out Kelly's Farm Market and Bakery this Fall! Primarily an apple farm, you can grab some u-pick apples, cider and apple pie after strolling through the sunflower field. There's some great photo opportunities here and plenty of pumpkins to choose from! The sunflowers peak around mid September.
The Sunflower Spectacular happens each year from Mid August until early September at Wickham Farms! For the Weekdays- $10/ person Admission gets you access to the sunflower field, 2 u-pick sunflowers + the barnyard attractions. Prices vary for weekends with options to include the barnyard attractions or not. (Plus the lavender is starting to bloom again!) Open 10-7.
If you are just looking to grab a quick picture with the flowers, Hopkins Farm is where you want to be. This is a roadside field near the intersection of Calkins Rd. and Clover in Pittsford. The field is off of Clover and there is only roadside parking so it can get quite congested and a bit unsafe during weekends and evenings so please be careful. The farmer allows individuals to stroll this field for free to view and photograph the sunflowers so be courteous! Treat the flowers kindly and if you want to take some home, cut flowers can be bought for $1 each right down the road at the stand. This particular field was at its peak around August 14, 2020.
LaMora Farms is an adorable little farm stand in Ontario with u-pick Sunflowers and much more! At the gazebos there is fruit, veggies and baked goods to buy. You can use the cash box or venmo to pay. Beyond the gazebos is a chicken coop (bring quarters to feed them), as well as oversized games! Walk a bit further and that's where you can access the Sunflowers. It's free to snap some photos or $1 per flower for u-pick. Bring your own scissors/pruners!
Enjoy over 250,000 sunflower blooms from the palest of yellows to the deepest velvet reds. Stokoe Farms is a the perfect way to enjoy a day in the great outdoors. Bring your camera and be sure to capture stunning views. All of the activities are open for fun and play as well. Kids 3 and under are Free! The ticket sales goes to Camp Good Days and Special Times!

The sunflower field at Pick 'n Patch is free to see and take pictures at. They offer pre cut flowers at the barn as well. There is plenty of other activities to do on site including goats to feed, a corn maze and other kid-approved activities with an admission price.

Once the snow hits the ground, everyone is on the hunt for indoor activities for the kids. We've already compiled a list of the Top 10 Indoor Play Areas in Rochester, but we understand the costs can add up! Here are some free alternatives.
1 Miracle Mile Dr, Rochester, NY 14623
The Marketplace Mall has an open area for kids to play all week long. There is often playmates to run around with here and is a perfect stop if you are daring enough to bring the kids along for some Christmas Shopping. The closest entrance to the play area is the East Mall Entrance.
Greece Ridge Mall

The children's play area at the Greece Ridge Mall is open 7 days a week. There are multiple tunnels, slides and climbing structures for kids to burn energy. Use entrance 9 or 10 by Michael's to enter near the play area. This mall also has $1 Carousel rides within the food court (entrance 8).

After running around Greece Ridge Mall, stop across the street at Chick-fil-a for lunch and additional play! Open Monday-Saturday, this restaurant has a small play area for kids to enjoy. Plus, each kid's meal comes with a book!

Come visit the only remaining McDonald's Play area in Rochester. For the cost of a Happy Meal (ranging from $2.49-$3.99) kids can eat lunch and burn some energy. Socks required! Play hours are 9:00 AM - 8:00 PM daily.
Pure Imagination Cafe

There are always friends to play with at Pure Imagination Cafe. Unlike child-centered Play Cafes, this one is free to enter. Grab some coffee then sit back and relax while the kids play.
While some recreation centers charge a small price per child, many others are free.
You can't go wrong visiting your local library. Each Monroe County Library has a spot for kids to play and explore, some more vast than others. The Toy Library (pictured) has enough to entertain the kids all day long! The Webster, Gates and Brighton Library also have large rooms dedicated to play. You don't need to do much to have fun inside your own home! Call it a pajama day, create some sensory bins, build a fort, or make some crafts. You can also snag this free download. With snow in the forecast it is time to scope out those places kids can burn off energy while keeping warm. Rochester is full of many great indoor options and many indoor play areas have just opened up this past year. Below are some of our favorites in no particular order. KidzTown Fun Zone
This play area just opened up in Canandaigua and serves a large age range in a wide open space. Children can bounce in the bounce house, play air hockey, dig in the sand and climb a mini rock wall all in the same line of sight.
Cost: $11/kid or $20/2 kids for all day open play
Ages 6 months to 1 year are free with a paying sibling.
Circle Play Cafe
Circle Play Cafe is a new indoor play area in Fairport. In addition to the main play space, there are separate play areas for children over three and for infants, 0-18 months. During any time that there are no events being hosted, the party room is opened as an arts and crafts area for kids to use with adult supervision.
Cost: Open Play: $8 (plus tax) per child
Children under 1 are free with a paid sibling.
Children under 6 months are half-price.
Ladybugs Play is an indoor play area located in Fairport and designed for children 7 years of age and younger. There is a variety of food and beverages available for purchase and an array of unique toys for children to explore. There is also a sectioned off area for children 18 months and younger to play and explore safely, and a room for nursing mothers.
Cost: $10 per child all day open play.

Climbing Vines East
Located in Victor, Climbing Vines offers a safe indoor playspace for babies, toddlers and preschoolers. The buildings inside fit for a child allow imaginations to run wild!

Climbing Vines Westside
Located in Chili, this Climbing Vines also serves babies, toddlers and preschoolers. For the littlest performers, there is a stage complete with dress up clothes and musical instruments.

At the Bricklab, children can drop in and free play with LEGOs, Duplos, and Kenex. This center serves a wide range of ages with areas for the little guys and pro builders. There is also a glow-in-dark building room!
