Lollypop Farm Winter Hike

1/4/2021

Comments

Picture
Our latest adventure includes the Farm Walk at Lollypop Farm (99 Victor Rd, Fairport, NY 14450). It was a brisk but sunny day when we decided to take the kids on a walk to see the animals at our local animal shelter. Starting off we went to see the horses that were out and then on to the cows and emus.
Picture
We were lucky enough to watch the cows get some special pumpkins left over from Halloween and they really enjoyed them! As a side note- if you have whole pumpkins that are not carved you can donate them to the animals after Halloween. Both the cows and pigs love them they are a favorite snack!
Picture
We then went on to see the ducks at the pond and there was many there! We even saw a few that looked like George Washington! Be on the lookout for them, they are adorable! After this we went inside the shelter. You are not allowed to see the small animals at this time in the front, but you could walk the hallways and see the dogs and cats. We also went around out the back door where the large cow statue is and saw that they moved the potbelly pigs up to the front so you can visit them easier.
Picture
Please remember to bring your mask if you go indoors. There are sanitizing stations everywhere and the restrooms are also open if you need them. As a secondary note- if you are looking to donate blankets or pillows the shelter is always taking them! They use them when new animals enter the shelter. All in all this is a fun cost effective adventure and also great distraction for Littles while taking in the fresh air. Be sure to check them out!

Schoen Place

Schoen Pl, Pittsford, NY 14534

This is one of the best spots to go as the ducks seem to always be there and it is allowed (many places do not permit the feeding of wild ducks so be mindful wherever you go). ⁣Please refrain from bringing bread for the ducks. Bread products are in fact not good for waterfowl or even the waterways! Bridsong Fairy Trail

Get away from the crowds and feed the birds at the Birdsong Fairy Trail at Mendon Ponds Park. The birds tend to be most active just beyond the last fairy house on the trail (near the owl shed of the loop back to the parking lot). Getting a bird to eat from your hand is more likely in the winter months and with children that can stay still for a couple of minutes! Good luck!
