Playgrounds for all children are starting to be built more and more - and we want to celebrate that! Most of these playgrounds have adaptive swings, padded play surfaces, wide ramps and other features to make the playground wheelchair accessible. New inclusive playgrounds are being built each year so be sure to check back! Karpus Family Playground1000 Ridge Road, Webster, NY 14580 The new playground at Ridge Park had its grand opening in November 2019, with final additions added in early 2020! The playground has limitless wheelchair accessibility and fun for all! Kids of all abilities and enjoy the slide, roundabout, swings and more. Rothfuss Park1648 Five Mile Line Rd, Penfield, NY 14526 This is an all inclusive playground opened in the fall of 2020 at Rothfuss Park. The play structure is perfect for all as it has ramps, small slides, is mulch free and even has an adaptive tandem style swing! You will notice a few musical aspects as well. With its own parking lot and pavilion with picnic benches this is sure to be a new favorite! Sweden Town ParkRedman Rd, Brockport, NY 14420 Built in June 2019, this playground and splash pad combo was built with everyone in mind and is guaranteed to entertain for several hours! There are musical instruments that can be accessed with a wheelchair as well as a splash pad that in wheelchair friendly. Shirley's Playland At Rotary Sunshine Campus809 Five Points Road, Rush, New York 14543 If looking for a safe place for your child to have fun and explore without limits, be sure to check out Rotary Sunshine Campus. They offer summer camp for children with a wide range of disabilities. Camp Eastman1558 Lakeshore Blvd., Irondequoit, NY 14617, Rochester, NY 14617 Camp Eastman offers a secluded splash pad and playground open and free to the public. The playground has a padded surface and is widespread- offering plenty of space for children to play. Children can then cool off in the handicap accessible spray pad area right near the playground. Camp Eastman is directly across Durand Eastman Beach, which offers opportunities for swimming, hiking and grilling. Genesee Valley Park Playground For all ChildrenThe name says it all! This playground has something for everyone. Some equipment is quite challenging while other features were designed to be fully inclusive. Seneca Lake State Park1 Lake Front Dr, Geneva, NY 14456 Though the playground may be difficult to manage with a wheelchair, the splash pad at Seneca Lake state park is wheelchair friendly! In fact, they have wheelchairs you can use in the water! The wheelchairs are free to borrow, however, there is a $7 vehicle entrance fee to get into the park. The splash pad is on a cycle of being on for 1 hour and off for 20 minutes. Monika Andrews Children's Park61 Holley St, Brockport, NY 14420 This Brockport playground was designed with everyone in mind and complies with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Accessibility Guidelines for Play Areas. There is an adaptive swing and a ramp to the play structure so that everyone can enjoy the space! There are many swings and a separate swing set for baby swings. There is a fun roller slide and other unique features. This is one of the older playgrounds on the Inclusive Playground list and also the only one without a padded play surface. Barry Street Park56 Barry St, Brockport, NY 14420 Though the entire playground isn't ADA approved, the ziline might just make the visit worth it! Towards the back of the playground (accessible by a paved path) is a "zipline" with both a typical disc seat and an adaptive swing seat! Kids of all ages and abilities can zip side by side. Farmington Town Park1000 Co Rd 8, Farmington, NY 14425 Since the above listed playgrounds do not have a sandbox, it is worth noting that there is an adaptive sandbox and swing at Farmington town park. This sandbox is raised off the ground so it can be reached at a wheelchair's height. Aside from the swing, the rest of the playground doesn't have many adaptive features. No pets allowed at this park. My children enjoy a great wooden playground! Check out some of these places where locally created BEARS Wooden playgrounds are located in and around Rochester. Along with the track around an open field there are hiking paths through the meadow with a beautiful view. There are two Bears Playground Structures (one wooden, one plastic) with swings including an adaptive swing. There is an open air pavilion and gazebos on site making this a wonderful spot for a gathering or birthday party. Rotary Park214 N Main St, Honeoye Falls, NY 14472 This playground in unlike most other Bears playground you will come across. There is a fun tunnel rock for the climbers, swings for all ages and abilities and a plastic play structure. The play structure is great for all ages with various sized slides and a bridge! The Zebulon Norton hiking trail is also nearby. Jack's Place, Rothfuss Park1648 Five Mile Line Rd, Penfield, NY 14526 Jack's Place is a unique dinosaur-themed playground that features a large sandbox filled with shovels, brushes and other toys to dig for dinosaur bones. The Bears Structure here is very large and unique. There are many ladders and bridges making this a challenging yet fun playground to visit. Jack's Place, Webster ParkIntersection of Lake Rd & Holt Rd, Webster, NY There's another dinosaur theme Bears Playground in Webster! You will find that there is ample space even when this park gets busy. You can dig for large bones in the sandbox, and the best part? It’s actually rubber pieces not sand! There is a large set of swings, walking structures, slides and two bridges within this play structure. You will notice there are a few different levels to this one, so it is perfect for many different ages. The playground is near the lake, so it does have a nice breeze. Avon Driving Park350 Spring St, Avon, NY 14414 Avon Driving Park is a gem! With two Bears Playground structures (one for younger kids, one for older) and a natural play area, this park is unique and endlessly entertaining. It is surrounded with nature so kids can explore around the playground as well as hike through the woods, play in the creek and try out the fitness trail. On the playground, you will also find a digger, 4 person teeter totter and plenty of swings! The playground is away from the road and parking lot so kids can play and explore safely. Letchworth Octagon Playground1 Letchworth State Park, Castile, NY 14427 This is a beautiful playground to visit in the fall or anytime of year. It is also a great spot to pair a playground with a hike. To get here, we drove to the Castile Entrance to visit the lower falls area (which is a little over an hour from Rochester). After entering, turn right and drive until you see a sign for Lower Falls Rd. Take this down the hill and you will see the new playground behind the rec center! This playground is unique but my kids had more interest in the traditional playgrounds, one of which is right near by. After playing on both playgrounds we hiked the beautiful path to the lower falls. There are lots of stairs but overall it's a quick and simple hike. Along the way you will find the octagon playground (Bears playground pictured) which is shaded and great for climbers! Continue on the hike and eventually you will get to a set of descending stairs and soon a sharp left turn. Take that for the wide open views, bridges and lower falls view. Sodus Elementary School6264 NY-88, Sodus, NY 14551 This is a brand new wooden playground just established in the last year! (2019) This playground is amazing for all age groups and has so much imagination to it! It is great because its set back from the road and there are picnic tables in the shade to enjoy some respite from the sun. Bring a ball there is ample space to run around as well as a baseball field nearby. Letchworth State Park1 Letchworth State Park, Castile, NY 14427 (Mt. Morris Entrance) Another Bears Playground can be found right after entering the Mt Morris Entrance at Letchworth State Park. This Playground can be found tucked behind the Highbanks Recreation Area. Despite being one of many Bears Playgrounds in the area, it has some fun and unique features including a little wooden "house", wooden ride on equipment and a disc swing! If you hike the paths directly behind the playground you will find beautiful overlooks of the gorge. The Harvey Swimming can be found right near by and is open to the public for swimming. The small falls pictured can be found if you drive just a bit further into the park at 42°42'06.0" N, 77°56'17.1"W. It is a short but semi steep downhill hike to the creekside and falls. Notes: There is a seasonal fee to enter the park and the playground has a sign indicating it is closed during the winter season. Al Lorenz ParkAl Lorenz Dr, Mt Morris, NY 14510 This hidden gem is tucked away in Mount Morris right outside of Letchworth State Park. Al Lorenz Park boasts a huge Bears playground with year round restrooms and open air pavilions near by. The park consists of several flat meandering trails that intertwined with one another which was perfect for wandering children. There is an impressive amount of bridges and a little island with bridge access. All this was walking (hiking) distance from the playground. Notes: The park has various hours throughout the seasons. We were able to access the playground and hiking during the off-season without issue. When the temperatures go up kids get cranky! Am I right? Here's a list of free and cost effective places you can take the kids to pass the time and feel refreshed. Our area boasts several fun and interactive places to enjoy some water, check these out! Located in and around Rochester you will find these twelve great places! Camp EastmanCamp Eastman Way, Rochester, NY 14617 Camp Eastman offers a secluded splash pad and playground open to the public. The playground has a padded surface and is widespread- offering plenty of space for children to run around and play. Children can then cool off in the small spray area right near the playground. Camp Eastman is directly across Durand Eastman Beach, which offers opportunities for swimming, hiking and grilling. Splash pad is on a timer and therefore water output pauses every few minutes. Cost: FREE Casey Park6551 Knickerbocker Rd, Ontario, NY 14519 Casey Park has a host of fun things to do when you go there. They have an impressive playground area as well as a lake to swim in and also a splash pad to cool off. The splash pad area is not usually busy it is a pretty simple play area but enjoyable all the same. Call ahead to see if a lifeguard is on duty if you plan to work the beach into your visit! Cost: Free Edmund Lyon Park100 E Ivy St, East Rochester, NY 14445 Edmund Lyon Park is spacious and contains both a splash pad and playground. The park is dog friendly and has a lot of open space for playing Frisbee. Also within the park is a basketball court and baseball field. There is plenty of seating near the splash pad with picnic tables and grills and one shaded area. The nearby school (which goes year round) shares the playground and splash pad and therefore the areas can get crowded and chaotic. The splash pad surface is slippery so wear water shoes or sandals! Bathrooms are located across the park by the gazebo. Cost: FREE First Responders Park1250 Chiyoda Dr, Webster, NY 14580 This firefighter-themed playground and splash pad offer hours of fun. A pavilion is located between the splash pad and playground offering a shaded area to rest and picnic. The playground and splash pad are far from the road and close enough to each other that children can run back and forth. The playground has a padded surface rather than wood chips. A great place for a firefighter-themed party! Cost: FREE Humboldt Recreation Center1045 Atlantic Ave, Rochester, NY 14609 Humboldt Recreation Center features a splash pad and playground open to the public. The splash pad has multiple fountains making this a great spray ground for kids that like to run around and through water. Along with the playground, there is a large yard that is fenced in near the splash pad that also has several trees for shade! As this splash pad is part of the rec center, it can become crowded when programs are in session and there is limited parking within the parking lot. Cost: FREE Kids Canyon1 Vince Tofany Blvd, Rochester, NY 14612 This playground/splash pad combo is geared toward younger children and will surely activate the imagination with its outdoor/animal theme. With large fish, beavers and bears to climb on along with a variety of swing types, the playground and splash pad is suitable for a range of needs and abilities. Cost: Free for Greece residents, $5 per child per day for non residents. The playground is free and fenced in but directly adjacent to splash pad. Therefore, warn your child if you do not plan on spending the $5 as it is definitely a tempting site! *COVID-19 Update: Splash Pad is currently open to Greece residents only* MLK Jr. Memorial Park353 Court St, Rochester, NY 14607 Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial park is an Industrial style playground found within the city of Rochester. The playground features a single fountain "splash pad" to cool off in after climbing its unique structures. Though this playground is geared toward older children, it can be fun for kids of all ages. There is plenty to do around this playground including the Play Walk and the Strong museum of play. The nearest bathrooms are outhouses. Cost: FREE Pineway Ponds 99 Park Rd, Spencerport, NY 14559 The highlight of Pineway Ponds Park is its splash pad and playground with a padded surface. The playground recently was renovated with new equipment but the spray ground remained untouched. The park also includes baseball, softball, soccer, football, and lacrosse fields, a squash court and basketball ball courts. Cost: FREE Ridgecrest Park988 Ebner Dr, Webster, NY 14580 The main attraction of Ridgecrest Park is its splash pad and skate park. There is plenty of parking and shaded picnic tables. The splash pad has been reported to be malfunctioning numerous times and is much less exciting than others. The nearest restroom is an outhouse. Cost: FREE Seneca Lake State Park100 Waterloo Geneva Rd, Geneva, NY 14456 Seneca Lake State Park is home to a one of a kind splash pad with 100 water jets that spontaneously spray water. Neighboring the Sprayground is a large playground with equipment for children ages 4-12 as well as a swimming area. Cost: $7 per car, 6/16 - 9/3: 8 AM - 6 PM, daily Sweden Town ParkJohn Henion Parkway, Brockport, NY 14420 This new splash pad as of June 2019 is so unique with the spinning ball fountains scattered throughout. The water is continuous and controlled by a button. There is a pavilion near by for picnics and shade as well as a bathroom shelter a short walk away. The adjacent playground is handicap accessible and has a padded play surface. Cost: FREE Union Station Park 25 Rock Island Dr, North Chili, NY 14514 Along with a splash pad, Union Station features a toddler-sized playground. The park is removed from the road and surrounded by open fields. A paved trail can be found around the perimeter of the park. Cost: FREE Troup Street Park210-266 Troup St, Rochester, NY 14608 This is a small splash pad, has one water sprayer that comes out of the ground. It is brand new (summer 2020), as they replaced the old spray park with this. It is just perfect for a quick cool down on a hot day!
My 5 year old caught the zipline bug after a visit to one of our favorite parks. Read through to find our favorite and to see what other playgrounds have this fun addition. Are we missing any? Black Creek Park3835 Union St, North Chili, NY 14514 Black Creek Park has not one but two ziplines side by side! Zipline race anyone? Aside from these, the playground is expansive and fun for a wide variety of ages. It has unique tunnels and plenty of slides. It is near a pond and several walking trails, plus it boasts a great sledding hill in the winter! B. Foreman Park4507 Lake Rd, Williamson, NY 14589 B. Foreman Park is such a hidden gem! Within this gem is a trail along the lake and two playgrounds. The playground nearest the parking lot is newer and includes a zipline! This one requires some adult supervision for the younger ones as it can be hard to reach. The rest of this playground is super fun with different climbing structures, bridges and slides. This park can get windy so wear layers! Mertensia Park1390-1394 Mertensia Rd, Farmington, NY 14425 A hidden gem- Mertensia is a peaceful, secluded park with a quiet playground and beautiful creek. Break a sweat on the zipline before heading to the creek just a short walk from the trailhead. Barry Park 56 Barry St, Brockport, NY 14420 This was an exciting find! A double zipline! This one not only has a seated disc zipline for the kids but also an adaptive swing zipline so that a wide range of ages and abilities can enjoy the thrill of zipping! Harry Allen Park 23 N Main St, Honeoye Falls, NY 14472 Harry Allen is a great little park right within the town of Honeoye Falls. Along with the zipline, it has several swings and slides and hiking trails down to the creek! Parma Town Parks1300 Hilton Parma Corners Rd, Hilton, NY 14468 Parma Town Parks is expansive and has two playgrounds on site. The smaller red playground has a zipline as well as a small sandbox. There's also a skatepark, hiking paths and a large pond. It's a beautiful park to go zip, bike and fish! Ontario County Park at Gannett Hill6475 Gannett Hill Park Dr, Naples, NY 14512 Ontario County Park has two playgrounds. One is further into the park with a parking area and several playground structures as well as a bathroom facility and shelter. The other is closer to the entrance and camping area- This one is small with no parking lot. The latter is where you will find the zipline. If you are there for the zipline, I'd suggest stopping by this playground briefly before driving onto the bigger one down the road within the park. Be sure to make time for hiking! Seneca Lake State Park1 Lake Front Dr, Geneva, NY 14456 This zipline at Seneca Lake Park is probably the best one out there and is the very one that sparked our Zipline enthusiasm! Unlike the other ziplines we have come across, this one is much easier for the kids to enjoy with a spot to sit on while you zip and a platform to "launch" off of on both ends. Not to mention, there's a beautiful view of Seneca Lake to zip towards. The playground itself is beautiful and expansive. There's also a beach and splash pad near by! Sampson State Park6040 -96 A Romulus, NY This zipline is located on a superstar playground with a phenomenal view! This is a forward thinking play area with unique equipment. There are two play areas for 5+ and under 5. The playground itself is in fantastic shape with plenty of space for the imagination to wander! The view is second to none. The playground is right on the water and close to beach with access as well. Come spend the day, you will have a blast! Stokoe Farms656 S Rd, Scottsville, NY 14546 By paying the admission price, you can go on this stomach dropping zipline again and again at Stokoe farm! They have a staffed zipline where employees will give you a boost upon request and help the littles ones aboard. This zipline is fun for adults too! They also have a separate zipline for the babies!
Leave a little more to the imagination with these natural playgrounds! Mostly made from logs or stumps, be prepared to play alongside your child as they balance and jump amongst the trees. Lilac Adventure Zone249 Highland Ave, Rochester, NY 14620 This newer playground within Highland Park is perfect for hide-and-seek, "The Ground is Lava" and parkour practice! It is the most intricate and popular natural playground in the Rochester area! Abraham Lincoln ParkEmpire Blvd, Webster, NY 14580 Tucked away in the shade behind a more traditional playground, you will find a log cabin and several logs and stumps for climbing and balancing on at Abraham Lincoln Park. Pack a lunch and go for a hike to extend the trip! Cumming Nature Center6472 Gulick Rd, Naples, NY 14512 This natural playground at Cumming Nature Center greets you before hitting the trails within the beautiful pine forest! There is a little wooden shelter, several log structures, stumps and a balance beam. Visit when the nature center is open: Wednesday through Friday: 9 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. Saturday and Sunday: 9 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. The center is Free to visit for RMSC members. If not a member, it is $3 per person or $10 per family. Seneca Park Zoo2222 St Paul St, Rochester, NY 14621 This playground is huge and perfectly placed at the zoo. Older children will love the challenges laid out for them. Younger children will find endless areas to explore. Some local Mamas have joked that they would get a zoo membership just to be able to go to this playground often. Visit while you can! This is reportedly a temporary play area while the zoo continues its construction. Mendon Ponds Park27 Pond Rd, Honeoye Falls, NY 14472 The natural play structures at Mendon Ponds Park are not the main attraction, but it certainly is an added bonus! The log tunnels and stairs can be found adjacent to Wild Wings Inc. and in front of the Birdsong Fairy Trail. Avon Driving Park 350 Spring St, Avon, NY 14414 This park offers a lot of opportunity for kids to play and connect with nature. Next to the small natural playground area are two larger Bear Playground Structures. The natural play area consists of logs cut into steps and balance beams. There is also a hiking trail with creek access! Winton Branch Library611 Winton Rd N, Rochester, NY 14609 These logs perfect for climbing and balancing on are hidden behind the Winton Library! If you head down the sidewalk and behind the library, you will see a very short wooden trail. That's where this area can be found! I often get asked the question, "Where can I find those Mommy and me swings?" I love that this is such a common interest! It just goes to show, us mamas want to join in on the fun! So far, we have found 5 Tandem swings in and around Rochester. Here they are! Ginegaw ParkLorraine Dr, Walworth, NY 14568 This Mommy and Me Swing is by far the best around and well worth the drive to Walworth! This swing is perfect for caregivers and young children. The rest of the park doesn't disappoint either! There is a sandbox with digger and a trail with fairy houses! Genesee Valley Park316 Genesee St, Rochester NY 14611 Genesee Valley Park is home to the closest tandem swing within city limits. This particular swing is found on the playground off of Genesee St. Use "Genesee Valley Park Playground For All Children" in Google Maps to find this swing at Genesee Valley Park. Rothfuss Park1648 Five Mile Line Rd, Penfield, NY 14526 Here is a unique tandem swing, great for kids of all ages and abilities. Strap in the child to the adaptive swing while the adult can stand and rock his/her body to move the swing. Kid's Canyon1 Vince Tofany Blvd, Rochester, NY 14612 You may have noticed Kid's Canyon on most of our playground lists - it just has it all, including a Tandem Swing! Sweden Town ParkJohn Henlon Prkwy, Brockport, NY 14420 There are several playgrounds within Sweden Town Park. One of them is brand new! The other two are much smaller and less frequented but they both have their own tandem swing! Ridge Park, Karpus Family PlaygroundVan Ingen Dr, Webster, NY 14580 This park is all inclusive, So they have a variety of swings available. The particular Tandem swing is very comfortable! Phelps Community Center8 Banta St # 209, Phelps, NY 14532 Within the newly renovated playground at Phelps Community center you'll find a variety of swings including a baby swing, adapted swing and tandem swing!
Here's a list of the playgrounds built or renovated in 2019 and 2020 Seneca Lake State ParkThis has always been one of our favorite parks to visit and the new playground makes it even better! There is a large splash pad, a beach and three playgrounds all within walking distance. The playground nearest the splash pad reopened recently with new play equipment mixed in with some of the old. The playground is very large and the equipment is great for such a large age range. It is $7 per vehicle to enter the park. The visit is well worth the $7, however, the fee can be avoided by loaning a State Park Pass from the Library or visiting outside of the collecting hours. Columbus ParkBuilt in the summer of 2020 and located at Columbus Park in Greece, this a quaint playground great for a variety of ages. The new playground design is unique, with some fun elements like a tree to climb to get to the slide and the bouncy seesaw. There is a nice big open field next to the playground to run around in as well. Bring a blanket to picnic in the shade! Jack's Place at Webster ParkThere's a second Jack's Place! This one is within Webster Park across the lake and pier (intersection of Lake Rd & Holt Rd). This new playground opened in the late summer of 2020 and is very similar to the one at Rothfuss Park with a couple new additions. The dinosaur bone digging area contains blue rubber mulch rather sand- Bring some shovels for the kids! This one is also in direct sun so pack those sunhats. Henrietta Rec CeneterThe Henrietta Rec Center finished up their fenced in and padded-play-surface playground early 2020. However, it is sometimes unavailable to the public so that it can be used by the rec center's camps. Call ahead before visiting or plan to go to the nearby Veteran's Memorial Park if this one is in use. Pineway PondsThis playground in Spencerport was renovated in June 2019. THe playground is more modern than the last but the padded play surface remains. The splash pad located behind the playground remains untouched! Sweden Town ParkBuilt in June 2019, this playground and splash pad combo was beautifully done. The area was built with all ages and abilities in mind and is guaranteed to entertain for several hours! Phelps Community CenterWith a recent addition during the summer of 2019, there are now two areas for different age groups at Phelps Community Center. There is a tandem swing, multiple slides and lots of space to run around. Ellwanger BarryWith the grand re-opening in October 2019, the equipment at Ellwanger Barry was replaced with a newer, more modern, items. Not everything has changed though -The community toys and sandbox remains as well as the lack of bathroom facilities. Ridge ParkThe new playground at Ridge Park had its grand opening in November 2019, with final additions added in early 2020! The playground has limitless wheelchair accessibility and fun for all! Rothfuss ParkThis is an all inclusive playground recently opened in the fall of 2020 at Rothfuss Park. Meridian Centre ParkThis is a brand new "Game Time" playground built in October 2020. It has a beloved tunnel/slide as well as a fun climbing tunnel on the ground. There is an adaptive swing, baby swing and regular swings. There is a butterfly garden near by as well as the Erie Canal Heritage Trail just a short walk away. Meridian park is just off the 590 Winton Road exit but the playground can be hard to find as it is tucked behind a business complex. Park in the parking lot off of Summit Circle Drive. Jack's Place at Rothfuss & Webster Park1648 Five Mile Line Rd, Penfield, NY 14526 Holt Rd & Lake Rd Webster, NY 14580 The playground that started the Rochacha Mama adventures - Jack's place is an imaginative dinosaur-themed playground within Rothfuss park built in memory for a young boy from Webster. The love can be felt at this park as it is often packed with playmates and smiling faces. There are now two seperate Jack's Place playgrounds - one in Penfield and the other in Webster! Highland ParkHighland Ave and Meadowbrook Rd Highland is a beautiful park within the city of Rochester showcasing two playgrounds and the Lamberton Conservatory, plus beautiful trails. Lilac Adventure Zone (Pictured below) is a natural playground consisting of mostly bridges and balance beams. Sweden Town ParkJohn Henlon Prkwy, Brockport, NY 14420 This new playground is one of many within Sweden Town Park. Not only does it have a padded play surface and wheelchair accessibility, it is also adjacent to a splash pad. The Playground has a "tree house" feel and the parameter is lined with musical instruments. Kid's Canyon1 Vince Tofany Blvd, Rochester, NY 14612 This Greece Recreation Playground wins the award for most imaginative! The unique structures, padded play surface and fenced in play area makes for a spot kids can run around and play for hours. If looking to pass even more time, there is a fitness trail, community center and library all within walking distance. Camp EastmanCamp Eastman Way, Rochester, NY 14617 This public playground is tucked away within Camp Eastman and across from Durand Eastman Park. This is a vast playground with a padded play area. It is fairly secluded and has a splash pad! Egypt Park99 Victor Rd, Fairport, NY 14445 It seems like anyone who has a toddler knows and loves Egypt park. The farm theme is so fun and inviting and nearby Lollipop Farms makes for a great and educational field trip. Ridge ParkVan Ingen Dr, Webster, NY 14580 Ridge Park got a makeover in 2019 and boy is it wonderful! Prior to this renovation, you would not find Ridge Park on our top 20 list, but the update has been so beautifully done. The accessibility to all children makes it a winner in our book! Ellwanger and Barry Park800 Meigs St, Rochester, NY 14620 Ellwanger and Barry Park has always been cherished by the Rochester Community. Despite its recent renovation, the large sandbox and community donated toys remain! Cobbs Hill Park80 Culver Rd, Rochester, NY 14610 This unique park within Cobbs Hill is one that even teenagers would enjoy. Complete with a challenge map, this "playground" is a parkour obstacle course! Hamlin Recreation Department1658 Lake Rd N, Hamlin, NY 14464 One of the few shaded playgrounds around, this playground behind the Hamlin Recreation Department has more to boast than just towering trees. It is also one of the very few wooden playgrounds still standing and makes for the perfect game of hide and seek. Abraham Lincoln Park1553 Empire Blvd, Webster, NY 14580 There are not one, but two playgrounds at Abraham Lincoln Park. The first is your typically playground but venture beyond and you will find an all natural playground with a miniature log cabin. At this playground you will probably find children playing "the ground is lava" and prancing about across the various log balance beams. The park is also a favorite for hiking so grab those baby carriers! First Responder's Park1250 Chiyoda Dr, Webster, NY 14580 (Phillips Rd and Chiyoda Dr on GPS) Dedicated to Webster's First Responders, this park is covered in Fire trucks! Both the splash pad and playground follow the theme. The playground has a padded play surface and is a good distance from the road and parking lot. There is a pavillion between the splash pad and playground so you can easily keep an eye on the kiddos as they run back and forth. Ginegaw Park Lorraine Dr, Walworth, NY 14568 A bit off the beaten path, Ginegaw is another playground worth the drive. There is a sandbox with digger for the older kids and an adorable mommy and me swing for the babies. Nearby is a trail through the woods with Fairy houses! Sodus Point Beach Park 7958 Wickham Blvd, Sodus Point, NY 14555 This playground at Sodus Point Beach Park is a must-visit in the summertime. One of the only nearby playgrounds in the sand, kids slide into the sand and swing with a view of the lake! Call ahead to ensure the beach is open. Seneca Lake State Park1 Lake Front Dr, Geneva, NY 14456 Though there is a fee to enter Seneca Lake State Park, the large splash pad and several playgrounds make it well worth it. The playgrounds are each so unique and playful. The splash pad is on a timer allowing kids to run around on the various playgrounds before jumping back in the water. There is also a swimming beach nearby. Check out your local library for a State Park Pass to enter the park for free! Casey Park6551 Knickerbocker Rd, Ontario, NY 14519 Casey Park has a playground, splash pad area, hiking trails and a free beach! The beach is open when a lifeguard is on duty so call ahead! Paddle boats are also available for rent. Tinker Park1525 Calkins Rd, Pittsford, NY 14534 Though no longer home to the Fairy Houses, Tinker Park is still worth the visit. There is a playground on the premises as well as several hiking paths, a nature center and fitness trail. Powder Mills Parks154 Park Rd, Pittsford, NY 14534 There is a playground at Powder Mills Park but this is not the main attraction. Not far from the entrance is a fish hatchery where kids can feed the fish. Bring quarters and a bag or cup for the fish food! Mendon Ponds Park27 Pond Rd, Honeoye Falls, NY 14472 Mendon Ponds Park has a lot to offer. Home to Wild Wings, Birdsong Fairy Trail, a playground and several hiking trails, the activities are bountiful. Pack a lunch and make a day of it! Perinton Park99 O'Connor Rd, Fairport, NY 14450 Last but not least, Perinton Park. Unlike most of the other parks listed above, Perinton doesn't have anything out-of-the box or unique, it simply is just a great park! The playground is large with lots of shade and away from the road and parking lot. The canal is on the other side of the parking lot with great picnic and people watching opportunities. There is no splash pad, padded play surface or fancy equipment but this is still a great park and one that doesn't disappoint. Our definition of "fenced in" here is one that kids cannot easily escape from (crawl over or under) and fully surrounds the playground. Some of these have a locked gate while others have an open entrance. Kid's Canyon3 Vince Tofany Blvd, Greece, NY 14612 This playground is located behind the Greece Recreation Center and walking distance from the library. With the structures and set up of this playground no child would ever want to escape! But nonetheless, this playground is fully fenced in and gated with a latch! Perinton Community Center1350 Turk Hill Rd, Fairport, NY 14450 Though this playground may seems exclusive with it being fully gated with a child-proof latch, it is open to the public! This playground is part of the Perinton Community Center so it may be in use by the programs there. However, there is plenty to do within the rec center and another playground (not fenced in but well removed from the parking lot and street) just down the road! Bristol Tot Lot500 Cooper Rd Irondequoit, NY 14617 This is a small playground that is fenced in and gated shut. Because of this, it is a breeze to keep an eye on that kiddo! Just note, there is no bathroom at this playground. Joshua ParkTitus Ave, Irondequoit, NY 14617 This is probably the largest fenced in playground in the Rochester area complete with several separate playground structures. soccer field and track. The fence is not gated and there is an opening further down the track for a walking path. Pardee Play Area113 Pardee Rd Rochester, NY 14609 Irondequoit is the place to go if looking for a fenced in playground! Here's another playground in Irondequoit that is completely fenced in (but not gated). Similar to Bristol Tot Lot, it is easy to keep track of your kid, but no nearby restrooms. University Avenue740 University Ave, Rochester, NY 14607 Conveniently located in the City of Rochester on University Avenue, the playground is fully fenced in with a small opening for entrance/exiting. The playground is small put there is plenty of space for running and picnicking. McAvoy Park1579 Winton Rd N, Irondequoit, NY Another Irondequoit playground fully fenced in with a single opening can be found on the corner of Empire and Winton. This is a small playground and great for the younger kiddos! Henrietta Rec Center605 Calkins Rd, Rochester, NY 14623 This is a beautifully constructed playground. It is on the smaller side, but still has 4 slides! The best part is it is completely covered and fenced in. There are even picnic benches available. Within walking distance is the Veteran Memorial playground (not fenced in but secluded)! Heyer Bayer Memorial Park Rudman Rd, Irondequoit, NY 14622 This small park in Irondequoit contains a playground and open field. The playground is fully fenced in except for a small gap for the entrance. There is no gate. During our visit, part of the fence was broken exposing the open field, but still safe from the busy road. Barry Street Park56 Barry St, Brockport, NY 14420 Barry Park is a large playground amongst a brockport neighborhood. The entire playground is fenced in except for a fairly large opening by the parking lot for the entrance and one other opening at the back to access the sidewalk. This playground consists of a super fun zipline and playground that kids can run back and forth to within the fenced in area. Sadie's Place Playground75 Wahl Rd, Irondequoit, NY 14609 This park is almost entirely fenced in (minus the entrance). There are two large play structures, perfect for toddlers-pre teens! This park does not seem to have a lot of traffic so it's a great place to let the kids run wild. Street parking only! Westplex Park7 West Ave, Manchester, NY 14504 Westplex Park is fairly large and fully fenced in and gated! Though the gate has a latch, it is easy to manage by young kids. However, the fenced in area is so spacious the kids won't even feel gated in. The playground is large with lots to do and there are baseball fields and wide open spaces for the kids to run around safely within the fenced in area. Just be warned, the fenced in area is so large it may still be easy to lose sight of your kiddo, but at least you will know they haven't gone too far! No pets allowed! Though becoming a dying breed, there are still some old-school wooden playgrounds in and around Rochester, NY. There aren't too many left but there are several other wooden playgrounds. Mendon Community Playground26 Mendon Ionia Rd, Mendon, NY 14506 Complete with sandbox and tire swings this wooden playground is thriving! The volunteers behind this playground have been on top of maintenance year after year with fresh paint weeding, and sandbox upkeep. Hamlin Recreation Department1658 Lake Rd N, Hamlin, NY 14464 Not only is this playground awesome in itself, it is well shaded, located behind Hamlin Library and just minutes from Hamlin Beach State Park. Plan a visit! Honeoye Community Playground8528 Main St, Honeoye, NY 14471 Located at Honeoye Central School, plan a visit to this wooden playground after school hours. There is a lot to be explored here and some epic games of hide-and-seek to be had. Head down the road to Sandy Bottom Beach after all that running! Imagination Academy230 Coldwater Rd, Rochester, NY 14624 Here's another one worth the wait. As this playground is part of a daycare center, it can only be enjoyed after hours.
