Here's a list of the playgrounds built or renovated in 2019 and 2020
Seneca Lake State Park
This has always been one of our favorite parks to visit and the new playground makes it even better! There is a large splash pad, a beach and three playgrounds all within walking distance. The playground nearest the splash pad reopened recently with new play equipment mixed in with some of the old. The playground is very large and the equipment is great for such a large age range. It is $7 per vehicle to enter the park. The visit is well worth the $7, however, the fee can be avoided by loaning a State Park Pass from the Library or visiting outside of the collecting hours.
Built in the summer of 2020 and located at Columbus Park in Greece, this a quaint playground great for a variety of ages. The new playground design is unique, with some fun elements like a tree to climb to get to the slide and the bouncy seesaw. There is a nice big open field next to the playground to run around in as well. Bring a blanket to picnic in the shade!
Jack's Place at Webster Park
There's a second Jack's Place! This one is within Webster Park across the lake and pier (intersection of Lake Rd & Holt Rd). This new playground opened in the late summer of 2020 and is very similar to the one at Rothfuss Park with a couple new additions. The dinosaur bone digging area contains blue rubber mulch rather sand- Bring some shovels for the kids! This one is also in direct sun so pack those sunhats. Check out the JACK Foundation Facebook page and jack-foundation.org to learn more about why these playgrounds came to be and how you can help.
Henrietta Rec Ceneter
The Henrietta Rec Center finished up their fenced in and padded-play-surface playground early 2020. However, it is sometimes unavailable to the public so that it can be used by the rec center's camps. Call ahead before visiting or plan to go to the nearby Veteran's Memorial Park if this one is in use.
This playground in Spencerport was renovated in June 2019. THe playground is more modern than the last but the padded play surface remains. The splash pad located behind the playground remains untouched!
Sweden Town Park
Built in June 2019, this playground and splash pad combo was beautifully done. The area was built with all ages and abilities in mind and is guaranteed to entertain for several hours!
Phelps Community Center
With a recent addition during the summer of 2019, there are now two areas for different age groups at Phelps Community Center. There is a tandem swing, multiple slides and lots of space to run around.
With the grand re-opening in October 2019, the equipment at Ellwanger Barry was replaced with a newer, more modern, items. Not everything has changed though -The community toys and sandbox remains as well as the lack of bathroom facilities.
The new playground at Ridge Park had its grand opening in November 2019, with final additions added in early 2020! The playground has limitless wheelchair accessibility and fun for all!
This is an all inclusive playground recently opened in the fall of 2020 at Rothfuss Park. The play structure has ramps, small slides, is mulch free and even has a large tandem style swing! You will notice a few musical aspects as well. With its own parking lot and pavilion with picnic benches this is sure to be a new favorite! Check out Jack's Place playground which is a short walk on the other side of the field, or take a hike at Irene Nature Preserve right across the street!
Meridian Centre Park
This is a brand new "Game Time" playground built in October 2020. It has a beloved tunnel/slide as well as a fun climbing tunnel on the ground. There is an adaptive swing, baby swing and regular swings. There is a butterfly garden near by as well as the Erie Canal Heritage Trail just a short walk away.
Meridian park is just off the 590 Winton Road exit but the playground can be hard to find as it is tucked behind a business complex. Park in the parking lot off of Summit Circle Drive.
