Heidi is a mom of two young girls living in the city of Rochester.
Tell us about yourself! How many kids? Where in Rochester do you live? How long? Etc.
My name is Heidi Richey. I’ve been married to Micah for 11 years. We have 2 daughters who are 3.5 years and 10 months old. We live in the city in the 19th Ward neighborhood. We have lived here for just over a month! Before that we lived in the South Wedge for almost 6 years.
What's is your favorite local playground?
We love Ellwanger and Barry playground! We used to be able to walk to it so that was a big advantage. I also love that there is a smaller playground for little kids and lots of swings!
What's your favorite Library?
We used to always go to Brighton because it was the closest. I do love that they have a playground right behind the library, so we can hit two different things in one stop if we want to. They have a good size children’s section and a large movie selection! They also have lots of fun toys in their play room. Now we can walk to the Arnett branch, so that will be our new favorite over the summer :)
What is your go-to family friendly activity?
We are pretty low-key so we love just going on family walks outside if it’s nice. Another favorite is going to Barnes and Noble in Pittsford. My husband and I get coffee, the 3 year old gets a steamer and we walk around looking at books. My daughter loves the kid section and playing on the stage.
What is your favorite Rochester hidden gem?
Shmeg’s on Buffalo Road! A great place for breakfast! They have amazing homemade sausage and bread!
What do you do with the kiddos during those long Rochester winters?
We really enjoy having a membership to the strong museum of play. That way we can go for an hour or two and not feel like we have to spend the whole day there. Also, leap n laugh in Greece offers pay your age sometimes on weekdays (or they have a coupon in the local flavor ad) which is great if you have little ones. My daughter loves it!
For free- we like to walk around the malls. Marketplace in Henrietta is great because they have a play area and a pet store :) (also Barnes and Noble. See above)
