​When the kids are in the water, assign a "Water Watcher" -- An adult who will pay constant attention to the children in the water.

-Put down the cell phone
-Avoid other activities and side conversations,
-Supervise even if there are lifeguards, 
-Switch off with another adult when possible for breaks.

BEACHES

SODUS POINT BEACH PARK

 7958 Wickham Blvd, Sodus Point, NY 14555
Description: There are two great Playgrounds in Sodus. The most exciting is the one right on the beach. It is right on the sand with multiple slides and two baby swings. Nearby, there is a large pavilion with plenty of picnic tables, a concession stand and bathroom facilities. The beach was clean and the water was clear. It is free to enter the Park! 
Cost: FREE
Hours: Poor water quality may close the beach to swimming. Call (315) 946-5624 (Mon – Fri only) for beach conditions.
Notes:  Make the day of it and visit Cracker Box Palace and Burnap Farm Market!


ONTARIO BEACH PARK

50 Beach Ave, Rochester, NY 14612
Description: A great destination for a stroll along the pier, a visit to the beach or a ride on a historic carousel. Ontario Beach Park is along the Genesee Riverway Trail and therefore can be a stop along your stroll from Turning Point Park, among others. Many dining options surround this beach, including Abbott's. A playground can also be found within the park. 
Cost: FREE
Hours: Swimming is allowed daily 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. during the summer.  For water conditions call 585 753-5887.  
Notes:  The swimming season at Ontario Beach Park is open from the Friday after Father's Day until Labor Day. Equipment and toys are available for rent, and free swimming lessons are offered.  Free swimming lessons are offered every Wednesday, from 10 - 10:45 am (5 years old and up).  Please call the beach hot line to be sure swimming is open.  Life jackets, kickboards, floats, water toys, sand toys, footballs, etc. are all available free to borrow from lifeguard staff.No dogs allowed.

CASEY PARK

6551 Knickerbocker Rd. Ontario, NY 14519
Description: 93-acre park with a diversity of passive and active recreational opportunities including boat rentals and a free beach.
Cost: Beach is free. $5 for 1 hour boat rental. $9 for 2 hour boat rental. 
Hours: Mon. & Wed.: 11:00 am - 6:00 pm
Tues., Thurs. & Fri.: 11:00 am - 4:00 pm
Sat., Sun. & Holidays: 11:00 am - 4:00 pm
Notes: For boat rentals: Deposit of Driver's License required. Children and adult life jackets provided. Check website to ensure lifeguard is on duty. Other recreational opportunities can be found here.

HAMLIN BEACH STATE PARK

1 Hamlin Beach State Park, Hamlin, NY 14464
Description: 1,287 acre state park located on the shore of Lake Ontario 
Cost: Vehicle Entrance Fee when beach is open - $7
When beach is closed - $6
Hours: The swimming beach is open 6/23-9/23 11A-7P
Notes: Playground, nature trails, swimming beach, hiking, fishing and more can be found at the park. Empire passes can be purchased for unlimited entrance to NY State Parks.  

KERSHAW BEACH

155 Lakeshore Dr, Canandaigua, NY 14424
Description: Beach with Bathhouse along Canandaigua Lake
Cost: Non-residents- $5 per adult and $2 per child (ages 6-18). No charge for children under 6 years old. 
Hours: 11:00 AM-7:00 PM daily until July 1st. Beach hours after July 1st are 10:00 AM-9:00 PM daily. Hours may vary near the end of the season. Kershaw Beach season ends Monday, September 2nd (labor day).
Notes: For information regarding beach conditions, contact the Kershaw Bath House 396-5082.

SENECA LAKE STATE PARK

1 Lake Front Dr, Geneva, NY 14456
Description: An expansive playground, splash pad, concessions and beach all within close proximity together can be found within this beautiful State Park.
Cost: Vehicle Entrance Fee - $7*
Hours: 
  • Restrooms available from May to October.
  • Sprayground (weather permitting):
    5/25 - 6/9, 11 AM - 6 PM, weekends and holidays
    6/15 - 9/2, 11 AM - 6 PM, daily
    Dates and hours are subject to change. 
Notes: Call (315) 789-2331 to to confirm swimming & the sprayground are open.
*Borrow an Empire Pass from your local library for free entry into this park!

SANDY BOTTOM PARK

Honeoye, NY 14471
Description: A small free beach on Honeoye Lake with a nearby playground, hiking trails and Pavilion for rent. 
Cost: FREE
Hours: 11 am to 8:00 pm daily, through mid-August.  
Notes: Sandy Bottom Park is located at the north end of Honeoye Lake, off County Road 36 (West Lake Road). Walking trails can also be accessed on Main Street and at the north end of East Lake Road. Check website or call to ensure beach isn't closed due to water quality. 


DEEP RUN

4279-4281 East Lake Road
Description: This a a small free beach along Canandaigua lake. The beach and views are beautiful. 
Cost: FREE
Hours: Lifeguards are on duty from 10:00 am until 9:00 pm

ONANDA PARK

4965 Co Rd 16, Canandaigua, NY 14424
Description: There is a lifeguard on duty at this beautiful beach along Canandaigua Lake. There is a playground near the beach as well as a creek to explore. The beach surface is rocks rather than sand, but still bring a shovel and bucket for playing!
Cost: $5 parking fee on weekdays. $7 on weekends.
Hours: 10:00 am - 8:00 pm daily through Labor Day

HARRY ALLEN PARK

Description: The Zebulon Norton Trail starts at Harry Allen Park, leads down to the Lower Falls and continues on to Rotary Park. Creek access can be found along the hike.

CHANNING H. PHIBRICK PARK

1 Linear Park Dr, Penfield, NY 14526
Description: This park features a pavilion, grills, seasonal public restrooms, green areas, handicapped fishing access, kiosk and hiking trail along Irondequoit Creek. Picnic tables overlook the creek where kids can play. 
Cost: Free


MERTENSIA PARK

1390-1394 Mertensia Rd, Farmington, NY 14425
Description: This park boats a beautiful playground and easy creek access right at the trailhead. 
Cost: Free
Notes:  The walking path has a lot of poison ivy along the trail so proceed with caution. 

CANAL

SCHOEN PLACE

Schoen Pl, Pittsford, NY 14534
Description: Canal landing and shopping area located on the North side of the Erie Canal in Pittsford. A quaint place to stroll the canal, listen to live music and feed the ducks.
Cost:​ Free summer concerts. Duck food: $1.00. Boat tours, Pittsford Dairy, and other vendors also available.
